Students on our integrated degree programme and interns take on responsible jobs within the company
German student Sebastian Wozny (22) was thrilled. Sitting at his desk, he could look out onto the city centre of Paris. The Sacré Cœur was just a stone’s throw away. For three months, Sebastian was able to enjoy this view from his office. He has just completed a three-month internship abroad in the French office of Pro Sky, the leading provider of customised flight programmes. “I have not only been able to gain more expertise here, but also get to know another culture and improve my French,“ he says enthusiastically about his time on the Seine. The internship is part of a training programme that Pro Sky has set up together with the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University.
Integrated Degree Programme in Economics
Every year, Pro Sky selects two students who then follow an integrated degree programme in Economics leading to a BA in Trade Fair, Congress and Event Management. It is a three-year sandwich course with the students alternating between three months at Pro Sky and three months at the university in Ravensburg. A challenging training programme that is very close to the heart of Pro Sky’s management. “We always promote our students very systematically, making sure their work is very far removed from the proverbial coffee machine,“ promises Miriam Mathwich, responsible for international personnel development at Pro Sky. Consequently, internships working for airlines and at airports, internal training courses and time spent abroad are all clearly defined integral parts of the training agreement Pro Sky draws up with its students.
Combining "Events" and "Aviation"
This wide overview is also necessary to combine the specialised studies in event management and the various duties of a Client Service Manager at Pro Sky. For the leading provider of customised flight programmes, the travel logistics of events are part of the company’s core business. “The combination of the course of study and the company’s in-house support equips me to work as a flight professional and, at the same time, I am gaining an insight into event management, in other words, into what our customers do,“ says Karoline Specht, also following the programme of study at Pro Sky.
“Corporate social responsibility is right at the top of Pro Sky’s list of priorities,“ says Managing Director Armin Truger, explaining the motivation behind it. Consequently, Pro Sky has also been providing training for many years, taking on interns and giving some of its staff the opportunity to study in Ravensburg.
The internships in the German office in Cologne serve mainly as orientation. Those interested gain an insight into the aviation industry and, at the same time, they can see for themselves what career options Pro Sky offers. Some switch from a ‘taster’ internship to the in-house programme of study, while others join the team of flight professionals immediately after a longer internship. “We see internships lasting several months as targeted vocational training, which is why we also remunerate these properly,“ Armin Truger points out, emphasising Pro Sky’s status as a Fair Company (www.karriere.de/fair-company, in German only).
Responsible Jobs within the Company
For the interns, however, it is not just a matter of ‘making coffee’. Quite the opposite. They take on responsible jobs within the company. In Pro Sky’s Paris office, for example, Pierre-Antoine Kintzinger (21) worked on a system of evaluating airlines. Together with a team of colleagues who are permanent members of staff, the student of the Business School in Rennes defined a list of criteria and coordinated this with all Pro Sky offices. “The results of my work are now the basis for a completely new template for quotes which has been introduced in all locations,“ says Pierre-Antoine, explaining how his work has contributed to the further development of the company.
Part of the Team
Since 1996, Pro Sky has given more than 20 selected interns an insight into the world of flight logistics. “All those interested were actively involved in our team and able to take on responsible work independently,“ says Armin Truger. An internally developed mentoring programme helps interns to learn the ropes of the fascinating and exotic environment of customised flight programmes. With such a high level of commitment, it is hardly surprising that so many interns and students later choose Pro Sky as their employer.
